Bicycle Gone Upside Down

July 15, 2011 by John Norwood Leave a Comment

I found this bike nearly a year ago and was not sure what to do with it since I have not ridden a bicycle for at least 30 + years. So, it dawned on me that I could flip it over and paint it silver and black. It also presents a foam medical box sculpture. It makes for an interesting piece to look at when people enter my College Point studio. BTW …  I think the bike is a Schwinn.

Vlad The Demon Impaler

Another sculpture made of Marlboro cigarette butts and glue. This piece is slightly demonic with a rather blatant phallic  reference.

Foam Person Sculpture

July 13, 2011 by John Norwood Leave a Comment

I assembled this rather happy gent a few months ago from foam packaging materials. He looks a bit demonic because of the orange paint used but overall, his general mood is carefree and go-lucky. He’s approximately 6’6″ and because of the foam, extremely light. Since this photo some repairs have been made to this foam sculpture. I do not have a name for this yet but I am open to any suggestions.

Pizza Box Art

June 27, 2011 by John Norwood 2 Comments

When we have family or friends over, we typically order pizza from Cascarinos Pizza in College Point (The Original !). It’s local and it’s the best pizza. But, when we’re done, I can not just throw out the perfectly square pizza boxes. So, I’ve started turning my collection of used pizza boxes from Cascarinos into art pieces. I’ve glued together the pizza boxes we have and painted them either black or orange. These pizza box art pieces can each be hung on a wall.

I am not sure where to put these yet, maybe I can convince the owners of Cascarinos to hang them in their restaurant ;). We’ll be be back for more pizza at Cascarinos, so pizza box art will become an expanding part of my collection. Stay tuned.

1776 Dunkin Donuts Coffee Cups

June 18, 2011 by John Norwood Leave a Comment

I enjoy Dunkin Donuts Coffee and have amassed a collection of their small coffee cups. What better to with them than create a multi-tower structure and call it recycled art. There are 1776 cups here (originally 1760 but I added the final 16 to be patriotic as we near the 4th of July). Some day I may paint these, but for now, they’ll remain in their original design. Here’s to making the donuts!
